Dubai Duty Free sales reach US$1.73 billion in 2022; travel retail continues pandemic recovery 

THE WHAT? Dubai Duty Free has reported an annual sales increase in 2022 of 78 percent to Dh6.34 billion ($1.73 billion), according to a report by National News. 

THE DETAILS Beating its own forecast, the retailer previously predicted sales of Dh5.1 billion ($1.4 billion).

Perfumes were the best selling item in 2022, accounting for 18 percent of total sales and reaching Dh1.13 billion.

THE WHY? The better-than-expected results highlight a return to glory for the travel retail industry post pandemic, with passenger traffic through Dubai International Airport said to have recovered strongly. 

Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of Dubai Duty Free, said in a statement: ““We are thrilled to announce such a positive year as travel returns, during which the operation went from strength to strength.”
