Unilever Nigeria partners with Wecyclers to expand plastic recycling

THE WHAT? Together with Bridges Outcomes Partnerships, Unilever Nigeria has signed a US$2 million partnership with Wecyclers to help tackle plastic waste in the African country, according to a report published by Leadership.

THE DETAILS The partnership was set up via a Development Impact Bond structured by Societe Generale and will provide the social enterprise with the funding it needs to scale up operations.

THE WHY? The consumption of plastics in Nigeria has jumped 116.24 percent in the last 15 years, now totalling 1.25 million tonnes. Unilever Nigeria has worked with Wecuclers since 2014 and the formalization of their partnership will help advance the UK FMCG manufacturer’s sustainability ambitions.
