Unilever Arabia takes fleet electric

THE WHAT? Unilever Arabia has added an electric vehicle to its fleet for the first time, according to a report published by Arabian Business. The UK-based FMCG manufacturer’s electric van can travel 300km on a single charge and has a payload capacity of 1400kg.

THE DETAILS The new van saves some 250kg of CO2 per day when compared to an equivalent diesel-powered vehicle. The manufacturer of Axe and Rexona has installed an on-site charging point to power the new addition.

“The introduction of electric vehicles to our delivery fleet is a core ambition and is central to Unilever’s sustainability commitment. We look forward to working more closely with the public sector and industry to further expand the infrastructure and seamlessly support the transition to electric mobility,” Ahmed Kadous, Unilever’s Head of Supply Chain MENA & PC Middle-East & Turkey told Arabian Business.

THE WHY? The move is part of the Dove-maker’s wider sustainability strategy as it seeks to reduce the emissions of its logistics arm to net zero by 2039.
